BTCjam

Founded in 2012, BTCjam was one of the earliest and largest peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms that operated using Bitcoin. The company's mission was to foster financial inclusion by creating a global, borderless credit market. It allowed users from around the world to lend and borrow Bitcoin from each other, bypassing traditional banking institutions. BTCjam developed its own proprietary reputation system to assess borrower creditworthiness. The platform facilitated hundreds of thousands of loans across more than 120 countries before announcing its closure in May 2017, citing operational difficulties and an increasingly challenging regulatory environment in the United States.
