Blockvest LLC, founded by Reginald Buddy Ringgold III, purported to be a cryptocurrency investment platform. The company attempted to raise capital through an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in 2018. The project gained notoriety when it was charged by the U.S. SEC for making a series of fraudulent claims to attract investors. These claims included falsely stating that its ICO was "approved" and "regulated" by the SEC and creating a fictitious regulatory body called the "Blockchain Exchange Commission" with a logo similar to the SEC's to appear legitimate. The SEC successfully obtained an emergency court order to stop the ICO, and the company ceased operations following the regulatory action.
