Arwen, which started as Commonwealth Crypto, was a Boston-based startup focused on enhancing cryptocurrency trading security. Its core mission was to solve the custody problem on centralized exchanges, where traders traditionally had to deposit their assets and trust the exchange with their private keys. Arwen developed an enterprise-grade protocol that allowed traders to maintain self-custody of their assets in on-chain escrows while executing trades on a centralized exchange's order book. Despite securing venture funding and partnering with exchanges like KuCoin, the company announced it was shutting down its services in June 2020, citing an inability to find a sustainable business model.
