Founded by Nicholas Schorsch, AR Capital became one of the largest sponsors of non-traded REITs in the United States. The firm specialized in creating, distributing, and managing publicly registered, non-listed investment programs focused on commercial real estate. Following a significant accounting scandal in 2014 at its flagship REIT, American Realty Capital Properties (ARCP), the company faced intense regulatory scrutiny, leading to the cessation of new fundraising, the sale of its distribution and asset management businesses, and a major restructuring. The remaining entity now operates as AR Global, an asset manager.
