Alabama Housing Finance Authority

Created in 1980 by an act of the Alabama Legislature, the Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) is a public corporation and instrumentality of the State of Alabama. Its mission is to provide affordable housing options for low- and moderate-income Alabamians. AHFA achieves this by offering financing resources for homeownership and rental housing, including below-market interest rate mortgage programs, down payment assistance, and financing for the development of multifamily rental properties. It functions as a self-supporting entity, issuing tax-exempt mortgage revenue bonds to fund its programs rather than using state tax dollars.
