Aequitas Capital was a diversified financial services company founded in 1993, headquartered in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The firm focused on providing alternative investments, including private equity, private credit, and special situations financing, primarily in the healthcare, education, and consumer finance sectors. It raised hundreds of millions of dollars from investors to fund these ventures. However, in 2016, the company collapsed amidst allegations from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it was running a massive fraud, hiding its poor financial state from investors while using new investor money to pay back earlier investors.
